WRITING EXERCISES

Exercise 1: Write about a time you felt like an outsider…

I felt like an outsider, during a program which I attended for 3 years in high school. The program was super difficult and challenging, but I had friends who were in it with me. We were able to execute all the problems with ease, we communicated well together. However, when we had to go camping for 10 days in the woods without any supervision, I felt left out, it wasn’t on purpose, or cause they didn’t like me. All of my friends were from China, and i’m from Tibet. It was the language barrier. For the whole 10 days, I communicated with them well, but when they started speaking chinese, and were relating to one another with ease then I felt like an outsider. I told them to translate what they were saying which they did, but it was different. I wasn’t from the same place as them, so the things they found funny or nostalgic I wasn’t aware of. This doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun. I did, it was an amazing experience, I built great relationship with them. Not only that I even gained few phrases and curse words they taught me (Which i’m not proud of) . Although I felt like an outsider, it was alright, it was meaningful because in life you’ll eventually be left out in some way or another.

Exercise 2: Write 10+ I learned…

  • I learned doing your work early for the first time is actually nice because it gives me more time to sleep.
  • I learned to never judge someone from what they wear because  When i first introduced Ji Won I completely messed up and said him and not her…Ouch.
  • I learned studying in a cafe is better than at home because i get shit done
  • I learned writing is really my weakness and I need to work hard to improve it
  • I learned that having a chill professor makes me learn and work better because of their flexibility and vib.
  • I learned feeling tired is different from feeling stressed…
  • I learned buying a expensive laptop is more efficient than I thought.
  • I learned being creative in high school and college is different. Almost harder even though there’s more freedom srof.
  • I learned this semester how it feels to actually have stress over the tutions and college expenses.
  • I learned work is not good for my education, although money is important, I should stop working because later on when i try to declare my major and realize how i wasted my time working. Because it brought my GPA down.
  • I learned yes, working and going to school is good for the future but, if I’m studying right now for the future and i mess up my GPA because of work, working/school may not be the best decision.
  • I learned I get sleepy really quick because my brain has low tolerance for looong typing.
  • I learned doing math is better than writing papers because it helps me think and work in the same time. Aso after i understand or get the answers it it feels real good.
